Physics Safety Week will take place from Monday, February 2, through Friday, February 6, 2026.

The kick off meeting for Safety Week will take place Monday, February 2, 2026, 10:00-10:30 am, in the Bldg. 50 Auditorium. The theme for this year’s Safety Week is Ergonomics.

After the kick off presentation by Nathalie Palanque Delabrouille, Physics Division Director, Jonathan Cabrera, LBNL Ergonomics Subject Matter Expert (SME), will present Ergonomics: One Small Change

Safety week is a great opportunity to catch up on all Work Planning and Control (WPC) required training, focus on workplace cleanups, chemical inventory and reconciliation, and updating door placards.

Office Walkthroughs will focus on ergonomics and will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 3rd and 4th from 1-4pm. Please review the schedule and be in your office during that time.

Lab Walkthroughs by Physics Division Leadership, LBNL Ergonomics SME and Safety Committee members will take place on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Cleanest and Most Organized Lab Space, Group with Best WPC Compliance and Ergonomic Specific Awards

All Staff- LBNL Employees and Affiliates:

  • Ergo Training: Complete all Ergo training, EHS0058, EHS0059 and EHS0054
    • Ergo Eval: Contact Bryan Abshier, babshier@lbl.gov
  • Ergonomics: Review ergonomic resources at ergo.lbl.gov
  • Other Training: Complete all required training. Go to https://training.lbl.gov/ to view your training profile.
    • Electrical Safety Training: EHS0260
    • ISM Training: Take LBL 0010 or ENG 1002. The latter is specifically designed for

    Physical Sciences.

  • Supervisors: Encouraged to take the training EHS 0042, Overview of Supervisor’s EH&S responsibilities.
  • Activity Leads: Encouraged to take the training EHS 0011, Being an Activity Lead.
  • WPC: Make sure all Activities are up to date, staff is assigned to a WPC (Work Planning and Control) activity, they have accepted the activity and completed all the training. Those that do not perform work onsite need to be opted out – contact Ingrid Peterson, ibpeterson@lbl.gov

    Housekeeping

  • Excess/Salvage old computers: You can drop off old computers in Bryan Abshier’s office, Room 50-5034. Place a tag with your name and cell number for property inventory processing, and put an entry in the Physics Computer Registry. Contact Bryan Abshier, babshier@lbl.gov for questions.
  • Discard paper, books, etc: recycling bins will be provided. Contact Ken Wilson, kwilson@lbl.gov for questions.
  • Additional steps for those working in Labs:

  • Discard unused lab equipment: Bins will be provided. Contact Ken Wilson, kwilson@lbl.gov for questions.
  • Chemical owners: Ensure all your chemicals have RFID tags and your chemical inventory is accurate. Discard any unused chemicals by submitting a Hazardous Waste Requisition.
  • Door placards: Information to update can be found at Door Placards. Contact Adam Foote AFoote@lbl.gov for help.
  • Preventing Water leaks: For those with water-connected equipment, please take this opportunity to inspect those connections and perform any necessary preventive maintenance.

    Teleworkers and Remote Staff (including Affiliates):

  • Complete all required ergonomics training. You can go to https://training.lbl.gov/ to view your training profile.
  • Attend “Ergonomics: One Small Change” zoom session [zoom link] on Wednesday, February 4, from 11:00-12:00 pm
